As part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the Indian Coast Guard, students of Sri Prakash Synergy School (SPSS), Kakinada, participated in a special Maritime Awareness Programme organized by the Indian Coast Guard. The initiative aimed to promote maritime awareness, inspire young minds, and foster a spirit of adventure, discipline, and patriotism. A major highlight of the programme was an exclusive sailing experience aboard "Antara," the historic 40-foot ocean-going sailboat owned by Captain Dilip Donde, the first Indian to complete a solo circumnavigation of the globe under sail. Under the guidance of the coast guard team, students gained firsthand experience in sailing, navigation, teamwork, sea safety, and leadership while learning about India's rich maritime heritage. The students also visited ICGS Kanaklata Barua, an indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) of the Indian Coast Guard stationed at Kakinada. During the visit, they interacted with Coast Guard personnel and learned about the vessel's role in coastal security, Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, maritime law enforcement, environmental protection, and search-and-rescue operations. The programme provided students with a unique opportunity to understand the vital role of the Indian Coast Guard in safeguarding the nation's maritime interests while inspiring them to explore careers in the armed forces and maritime services.
